Second Sun - 'Music For Plants' Album Out Now!
Second Sun's new Album "Music For Plants" is out now on Petite Victory Collective.
Music For Plants consists of 11 tracks centred around minimalist melodies and repetitive patterns, and is composed with inspiration in the meditative experience of growing houseplants as a means of aiding mental health issues.
The idea for Music For Plants initially sprung from composer Jacob Rasmussen’s own ongoing struggles with depression. He found that (alongside professional therapy) dedicating time to caring for houseplants presented an effective way of countering tough days and difficult feelings. This simple and meditative routine gave a sense of joy and purpose on a very immediate level, and quickly grew into a steadfast hobby, and an apartment full of flourishing green leaves. Gradually, the comforting sensation of tranquil slowness started making its way into his everyday life and his compositions, adding a delicate sense of introspectiveness, calmness and contemplation.
The result is an album that bears witness to the grim face of depression, but also presents the listener with hope, comfort, and careful optimism - a quiet homage to the small miracles in everyday life, to deliberately slowing down, and to not giving in to the stresfull tempo that is so often imposed on us by modern society, work life, social media, and neocapitalist values.
