"Manahoar" (Electronica/Industrial) | Digitone 2, Digitakt 2
Here we are with the first jam I've worked on since embarking on that lengthy 14 factory kit challenge I finished! Feels nice to make something from scratch, hunting for the sounds I want instead of working with the ones given to me.
This ended up sounding a bit cheerful or fun contrary to what I was planning at the start but I went with it as it was coming together nicely, and I think it landed somewhere good!
I tried for this one using the Digitakt 2 for drums (largely so I could take advantage of the Hexcells sample pack by @CatenationIndustrial proper this time, again get it from the Elektron website if you want some excellent harsh percussive samples!)
I run the Digitone 2 at the end of the chain because that's what works best for me, but as I always like lots of compression and often sidechain ducking to the kick I was able to still accomplish that having the Digitakt running first in the chain. I used the compressor on it as well (bypassing the kick and snare from it), and then on the Digitone set the sidechain source to IN L/R and tweaked the threshold until it was hitting right with the kick and I think it worked out nicely. A lot simpler when the kick for sidechaining is on the last box in the chain, but nice to see I can still do it well.
Also I decided to make this a structured song mode track, been awhile since I've used that and I felt this one could work out well with it. If anyone reads through my rambling far enough, hope you enjoy! Not quite sure what I'll be putting out between now and when Jamuary starts on Jan 1, maybe I end up squeezing in a jam or two and I have some talking videos in mind, but we'll see. If not, see you Jan 1 for the start of 31 daily jams :)
(Also the name is after a creature in the old PC game "Sacrifice". Great and weird game!)
