About The Event
Last September, the transcendent jazz trio, MDC III, returned with their second album 'Drawn In Dusk'. You can experience them live on Sunday 29th, January 2023 at Loppen for an evening of dreamy atmosphere, pulsating grooves and lots of improvisation. Second Sun will be playing as special guest.
This event is presented in collaboration with Northern Winter Beat.

MDCIII
On the new album, the trio creates a transcendent, dreamy atmosphere, full of pulsating grooves, impactful saxophone lines, modular drums and plenty of room for improvisation. MDC III consists of three core members from the Belge jazz scene; saxophonist Mattias De Craene and drummers Simon Segers and Lennert Jacobs.
After their first EP, 'MDCIII ft. Sylvie Kreusch', and their subsequent first (internationally) acclaimed album 'Dreamhatcher', the 'double drum sax trio' is ready to deliver a whole new palette of sound as mysterious, energetic and wild as 'Dreamhatcher'. MDC III is a project that involves drums and saxophone, while the use of recorder, electronics and percussion steers the music beyond the classical, acoustic limitations, and the result is strikingly true with contrasts.
What is abstract and introspective one moment can change - gradually or abruptly - to immediate violent ecstasy the next. The result is many things at once, but despite these wildly varying sounds, textures, rhythms and moods, they all hang together, as part of a free, generous and inviting whole, which we are incredibly looking forward to presenting at The flea on 29 January.
SECOND SUN
Behind the alias Second Sun is Jacob Rasmussen, who has a long musical background in bands such as Blå Nätter, Syreregn and We at Sea, and made his solo debut under the name Second Sun in the summer of 2022 with the album 'Planetary Movement' as part of the Petite Victory Collective.
A short time ago he released the album 'Insomnia Tapes', an ambient electronic sound universe composed and performed on modular synthesizers, tape machines and effect pedals. The music is instrumental, minimalistic and alluring, and draws the listener into dense timbres, deep soundscapes and cinematic themes.
