Movement81 - 'If infinity,' Out Now!

Movement81's debut album, ‘If infinity,’ layers rhythmic builds and immersive arps with deep, introspective moments, creating a sound that feels both intimate and expansive. Defying genre constraints, the album references familiar electronic landscapes from UK Garage to Trance and Big Beat, weaving together 80s and 90s influences with an approach that resists the algorithm. Carving out a distinctive sonic identity, Movement81 embrace their background and influences, refusing to fit neatly into a single category.

Reflecting on the unprecedented pace of advances in quantum computing, 'If infinity,' explores both the promise and uncertainty of a new technological frontier. Produced using a hybrid hardware-software setup including Eurorack modular, Ableton Live, MPC Live, and Elektron gear, the album drifts between moments of deep reflection and bursts of euphoric highs. 'If infinity,' questions our place in the universe and the concept of parallel others - if computation has the power to unlock infinite possibilities, will we one day meet another version of ourselves? Album tracks such as 'Whitewall' and 'Highline' were written in response to 'smaller' lived moments, reflecting on connection and personal experience, with 'The Mirror' and 'Eternal' contemplating our existence within the vastness of time and space.

Extending beyond the listening experience, ‘If infinity,’ also considers what we may be losing as technology advances. As quantum computing accelerates, could it reshape not only global power structures but also the way we connect, express ourselves, and understand who we are? The album delves into the uneasy tension between control and chaos, exploring whether we are on the verge of expanding human potential - or becoming less of ourselves.

A series of live shows, set to be performed at UK venues in May and June 2025, will bring these ideas to life through an AudioVisual performance featuring a custom-built ‘quantum housing’ for Movement81’s Eurorack modular synthesizers, synchronized LEDs, and a dual-screen projection -combining the real and the theoretical into an immersive experience that feels both vast and intimately connected at once.

“For us, the visuals are just as important as the music. We hope the album can be enjoyed using ‘ears only’, but we see it much more as one aspect of a larger project. ‘If infinity,’ isn’t about explaining big ideas, it’s about feeling them. These are huge, complex concepts, but our response to them is personal. The live shows hopefully bring that idea to life, blending sound, visuals and performance into something bigger than each in isolation. It’s not just about creating a show; it’s a world - or worlds - to step inside, to be immersed in.”

Album track ‘Whitewall’ dropped on PVC on 11th April with two additional remixes, and was recently featured on BBC Radio 1’s ‘Introducing Dance’ show with Jaguar, renowned for her commitment to spotlighting emerging electronic talent and advocating for diversity within the dance music scene.
